“English teacher in Sudan lets her children name a teddy bear ‘Mohammed’, hilarity ensues”
It’s incredible the extent which religion influences us. The powers our beliefs embue is with; feelings of superiority, of pride, of accomplishment, of well-being. If only we didn’t put them towards invisible borders dividing humanity.
“Mall shooting in Omaha, Nebraska|
I remember a dicussion with a friend after the VTech shooting, and the conclusion that, “This is just the first; he will inspire others.” It’s surreal to look back and realize that we were right – while this is technically not related, and misuse of firearms is hardly news, they seem more important to the public now, more in the spotlight.
“Little girl shot six times protecting her mother and survives”
I wonder how many people will say “the girl is blessed” rather than “the shooter has terrible aim.” Furthermore, how many people now realize that firearms are not “bang bang you’re dead” weapons of terror, but just shoot little lumps of composite metal that, believe it or not, does not have to kill you on impact.
Of course, I’m sure someone will point out that she didn’t die because she was hit in “light” places, failing to take into account just what a bullet can do to the human body.
